CinemaCon – Las Vegas (April 23, 2012) – SmartJog unveiled at CinemaCon, the annual convention of the motion picture exhibition industry, that it plans to double its satellite capacity over Europe. The multi-year agreement with Intelsat S.A., the world’s leading provider of satellite services, is for distribution of digital cinema services on Intelsat 905 at 335.5°East to customers in Europe. Consumer expenditures on entertainment media in North America and Europe grew a hefty 69% between 2000 and 2010 to reach USD 234.8bn, with cable and satellite TV retaining top slot as the leading form of entertainment media during the preceding ten years (or “noughties” as some have described them), according to a new report from IHS Screen Digest.
Cable and satellite TV accounted for 59% of all entertainment media spending in 2010 on the two continents, compared to 40% ten years ago, according to the report, which also tracks the performance of segments such as home video, video games, music and cinema. Revenue from cable and satellite TV services reached an estimated USD 139.2bn last year, up from USD 56.1bn in 2000. (continue reading…)

AT&T has listed a new exclusive AT&T U-verse offer for AT&T wireless customers that sign up for U-verse services.
AT&T wireless customer can take advantage of this new offer if they add a U-verse Satellite TV and Internet bundle. They would receive a $45 monthly discount for six months — covering the cost of U-verse Internet Max (with downstream speeds up to 12 Mbps) and giving customers a total of $270 in savings.
“People hate to pay their cable bill like they have to pay taxes,” said Brian Mitchell, a media analyst for Kaufman Bros., a New York investment bank. “It’s the programmers who have been raising the price up, and the cable companies have just been passing it through.”
